More of our great teachers at the festival this year. Flora Gillman and Paula McKinlay.

Love this quilt.  We have so many great quilts how am I going to decide which classes to take?
'' I am Flora Anderson Gillman.  Love to quilt, love to talk. I Enjoy getting to know anyone else with the same interests!  I have been quilting for 21 years.  I learned by going to a mid-week Relief Society activity that turned into "That Alpine Quilt Group" that has continued to meet every month for the last 21 years!  The women in that group have become my dearest friends.  What a bonding experience quilting is.  I also work a little in the quilting world.  I work one or two days a week at Broadbent's in Lehi, a wonderful little quilt shop, where I make a few samples, teach a few classes, (love our "Girl Gang"), and visit with everyone who comes  through the door.  I have never taught at Quiltwalk but have attended.  I have been teaching for several years at Winter Quilt Retreat at Ruby's Inn,  and at PiePlate Patterns Retreat and last fall at the Utah Valley Quilt Guild Aspen Grove retreat.  Most of the quilts I teach are simple, but teach a technique or a principle as well as a pattern.  Keeping things simple usually allows everyone who attends to feel sucessful, often with something to show for their efforts in a relatively short time.  I love to watch new quilters GET IT, don't you?  I am traveling with my buddy, maven and fellow teacher, Paula McKinlay, and we can't wait to visit the Panguitch Quiltwalk.  Thanks for including us.'

Isn't this the cutest baby quilt.  I think I need some of those dots for a new background.

This is paula's quilt for the festival.  She writes, "This is my first time at the quilt walk, I am so excited. I have been piecing quilts for 21 years. I have always loved creating "things", I started with knitting Barbie rugs, then moved onto "troll" doll clothes. I eventually designed my own clothes and then quilts. I love making baby quilts. Here are the pictures of my classes I am teaching. Also my new pattern, covered notebook ."

This bag, is it to big to call a purse?  Is fabulous.  Imagine all the colors you could use.  Crochet out of fabric.  I may have to put this on my list.
Here is her notebook cover.

Yay! Sew Night, new projects and a sneak peek

Remember I told you about our guild doing black and white blocks with a crayon color drawn at each guild meeting.  Here are Shannons blocks.  She is doing two of each.

These are Claudias' blocks.  She is adding the black and white extra to each block, I think she called it a BQ pattern.  It is really striking.  Shes
making two of each block also.  Of course yours truely only has her crayon colors drawn.  That is it.  No fabric, nothing cut nothing.  No excuses.

Here is Marylous' flimsy

from  the tube piecing she had last week.  It turned out great didn't it?

Marylou taught some of the ladies how to do the tube piecing blocks.  These are the ones LaVee put together.

Prepare to be amazed!!!!!

Are these not the greatest little blocks.  Just so you know they are a sneak peak for the quilt walk.  Most of us worked on these last night.  I love working with friends.

Remember this project from last sew night?  Well here it is cut apart and put back together.

Look at these bocks claudia made from her class in Brigham City. Are these fun blocks.
We are going to meet again next week to work on the quilt.

Star Crossed Canoes

DeAnn Oliekan will be teaching this class  at the festival this year.
"The class will be "Paperless" paper piecing. It is a fun technique that gives you the precision of paper piecing without having to pull all the little pieces out of your seams."

This looks like a great class.  fun to do scrappy or with a color plan.

Deann called herself a rookie teacher last year, but it looks like the class was a hit.   This class was called head and tails.  It looks good.  She even has pictures of two of the finished quilts.  Way to go Ladies.

I really like the colors on this one.

This last picture is a class that Deann took at the festival last year called peppermint twist.  It is always so fun to see what everyone comes up with and the colors they use.  Some of my favorite quilts start with fabric I would have never even looked at twice but someone--usually not me-- saw the potential.

If you have a finish from last year or any years that we have not seen I would love to put it up here so everyone can ooh and ah... with me.
Check out Claudia's blog for updates on the festival.

Tomorrow I finally get to go to sew night.  I can hardly wait so see what everyone is doing. I haven't been sewing this week.  My daughter was here and wanted to scrapbook and of course I can't say no to having a partner in making a mess.

Don't you just love these wonky stars?!!

This is Emily Baileys first class for this years festival.  This class will be Friday evening.  What a fun time to take this class.  Class is called I'm a Maverick Star.

Emily is so good with scrappy quilts.  All day Saturday she is teaching this amazing quilt.  I saw this pattern last year at Quilts Etc.  and thought it was one for the list.    Doesn't the name Breath just feel right for it.  How did you come up with the name Emily?

This is the first time I have seen it in color.  Love it.  This black and white with red is so classy.

I asked Emily to tell use a little about herself
"Last year was my first year at Panguitch and it was great! Everyone is so kind. I went by myself but never felt alone. I made many new friends and it was wonderful.

I have been sewing for as long as I can remember. My mom gave me my first machine when I was in the fifth grade. One that she had won in the state fair for a dress she had sewn for me. I have many found memories sewing on that machine. In high school I took marketing and fashion merchandising along with sewing classes. I had high hopes of becoming a fashion designer. But those plans changed when I met my hubby and had three sons. Sewing for little boys got boring pretty fast when they no longer thought knickers and sailor suits were cool. So I took up quilting. I was hooked immediately. I started designing and selling patterns by accident. When my baby went to kindergarten I needed something to fill my time. I started sewing displays for a local shop. After showing the owner a quilt of my own design she asked me to make it into a pattern to sell in the shop. I did this a couple of times then started selling to other shops. It has been very rewarding for me to meet shop owners, teach classes and meet wonderful quilters. I think they are some of the most caring and generous people. I feel very blessed to be among them. I am currently on the Utah Quilt Guild board over charity quilts. This is keeping me busy doing what I love and lets me meet a lot more talented quilters.

My mom has always been a inspiration to me. She has encouraged me to develope my talents. I am so thankful for her example and support. My dear hubby, three sons and darling daughter help me any way they can. I appreciate their input and love when one of them joins me in my sewing room. "

This is one of Emily's classes from last year.  So cute.  The pattern is
Snips and Snails meets Sugar and Spice by Emily
This next one is the harvest sky class she taught last year also.  These are pictures of students progress.  I love seeing these in different fabrics.

Mistress Mary quilt contray

Wow--this new fabric called "Quite Contray" will be perfect with my new project.   Jen-Allyson has designed this new line of fabric for Riley Blake and is giving away a stack of fat quarters.  Get on over there if you want to try for it.  I was cruising around her blog and found out she also designs for My Minds Eye scrapbook papers.  Check that out.  She designed Stella Rose line of paper.

paper
BTW my next new project is By Konda at Moose on the Porch.
This is it on the front of the book. wouldn't it be perfect in the "quite contrary' line. I can't wait until it comes out. Until then this will have to be waiting in the wings. I have had my eye on this pattern since I saw it made up by Nellie in our quilt quild.

Nanette"s blog has more pictures of these quilts

Today Nanette has great pictures of her quilts from my last post up and some more info.  Nanette's classes

Also for up to date information as to  what is going on at the festival check out what Claudia has to say.  She was telling me that the "Last Supper" quilt will be at our festival this year.  How cool is that.   Just in case you did not know.  This quilt, the logo for the festival this year was made by claudia.  It is fantastic.  The two small quilts are true down to the last detail.

This lady is Amazing!

I asked Nanette of Freda's Hive to send me some pictures of the projects she is going to be teaching at the Festival this year and to tell me  about herself and her history with the Quilt Walk.  She is truly amazing I can't even imagine how she is able to do all she does.  This quilt is one of her own designs called Freda's Flowers and is made with a jelly roll.

A smaller version.  I definitely need some of that red checked fabric and those flowers are so original.

Nanette is always looking for unique fabric and she is so good at using it and it always looks great.

There is supposed to be a picture here and I can't figure out where it went.  I have tried several times to post it and it either gets lost or posts sideways.

The second class Nanette is teaching is a butterfly class.  I have seen it done different ways.  Look at the fun way she used the fabric for the lines in this one

This quilt looks so good when it is finished.  I especially like the way she used black to make the fabric butterflies pop.

I am going to insert some of the information from Nanette's Bio so you will see what I mean by amazing.

"I have been sewing most of my life and quilting for 12 years.  I started designing patterns about 10 years ago when ideas would come to me for projects that I wanted to make but couldn’t find patterns for them.  I love vintage fabric and Japanese produced reproduction fabric.  My love/style is early to mid 20th century fabrics and quilts.   I have links to free tutorials and also my patterns on my blog.  I teach classes at local quilt shops and retreats.  I am a mother of 8 children ages 16-29.  My company is named for my mother, Freda.  Freda’s talents and influence were passed onto me and I am passing on that love of fabric and creation to my family.  Most of my children are adults now but our home is always a hive of activity with family members coming, going, staying and passing through.  I have tried to instill in my family an understanding of hard work and industry.  We have a big garden, chickens, bees and pets.  I am a displaced city girl finding I love living a mini farm life and quilts are a big part of who I am and what I love doing.  I also work full time for a mid sized medical practice as a department manager."

Whew! How does she do it all?  Besides all that  " I  sew samples and design patterns for fabric companies."

I took this bag class from her at the Quilt Walk last year. She is a great teacher.
"My theory on teaching," she says," is that we should have fun. I like to have a relaxed classroom atmosphere. We can fix any mistake. And I want everyone to get as much done as they want. Last year I took some of my class members into the free sew room after my class so they could finish their bags. I just want the class to feel like they've accomplished something and make progress instead of starting a new UFO."

This quilt is her newest design. It is called dreaming princess. That is the new Riley Blake fabric.

I think this is a quilt she designed to go with this new fabric that will be coming out this spring.

Ok, Here is the picture that I can't get to stand up straight.  I wanted you to see the quilt.  It looks as good sideways as right side up.  This quilt is going on my list.
Good thing I have a blog so I can keep track of all the quilts on my list. Wait, Is there a way to put that on my side bar?
I can't wait to see Nanettes quilts in real life.
