Sew night....

Jerilu is making progress on her Farmers Wife blocks.  These are the blocks where she is using some of the fabric given to her by Mrs. Lynn. 

Nobody actually brought their machines but we had some show and tell, we visited and Claudia showed us how to cut out a new quilt of wonky trees. She got hers all cut out while we sat and visited with her. It is good to get back into the swing of sew night.  I've really  missed it.   Panguitch in the summer can be hectic.

Oh my, I think this quilt is so cute.  Jeri brought it to work on the binding. 

Here is Lauren's college quilt quilted.  It still needs binding but time seemed to run out today.  

LaVee's sister in law made this bag out of woven placemats.  That inside fabric is fabulous.

This is the quilt you have seen before. It's quilted and ready for binding.  Lauren and I put this together.  She should be warm at school.

 

Jeri's granddaughter who is twelve put this quilt together.  She did a great job. Marylou quilted it for her and it is so cute.  I love the owls in the fabric.  Fabric is from adorn it.

These hats Helen makes are so cute for big and little girls.

We finally were able to get together to sew! Yay

Lana brought her completed crochet bag.  I love it, why didn't I take that class?

She said she found this pattern in a McCalls magazine.

Look at those little squares.  love it.

Jeri brought this baby quilt to bind.  She said she started it a long time ago but then there were only boy babies coming into the familly.

Wait until you see this right side up. It is stunning.  Right now she is somewhat frustrated and is doing some unpicking.

It seems like by the time we leave things just don't fit in the case very well. 

Tomorrow is the balloon festival so we will be up early to see the balloons take off.  Our mountain air is perfect for the balloons.  Tomorrow night is the glow down main street.  Each year it gets bigger and bigger.  It is so fun to walk down the street and see people you haven't seen in years.

I saw this booth and was immediately drawn in.  I think this hexagon is going on my need to do list.

 I didn't touch but thought they could even be quilt as you go.

I saw this quilt in the Anthology booth, I had to have a closer look.  As I asked to take the picture, the man in the booth said this pattern would be available as a free downloadable pattern in 2 weeks and

 This one is already on their site as a free downloadable pattern.

I liked the quilts in the Jaybird Quilts booth.  These are the ones that caught my eye.

 I do really like this quilt.   I think the pattern is called hugs and kisses.

I thought this one looked sassy.  Love colors on black.

Even more sew night, blocks that have a history and even a recipe

Lila Tueller fabric.  A sneek peek at a Quilt Walk suprise.

This is someones purse, and I forgot to ask who it belonged to but I believe it is like the class that is being offered at the festival this year.

the balloon festival is paring up with the American Cancer society this year and this is a quilt they are auctioning off as a benefit.  Lot of work in those ribbons Becky.

Dianne is making this georgeous Lone Star quilt.  The colors are really striking.  The camera doesn't do it justice.

Mary Lou brought a pistashio cake that was so moist and good it just had a hint of glaze on it.  I asked her to send the recipe, now to see if I can find it. Pistachio Cake

1 pkg white cake mix
1/4 c flour
1/2 c water
1/2 c milk
1/2 c oil
5 eggs
2 pkg Pistachio Instant Pudding

Mix all and beat until smooth
Bake in Bundt pan in 350 degree oven for 50 minutes or until done

This quilt is one that Mary Lou's friend sent to her and asked her to quilt.  It has been stored for many years and Mary Lou felt it was too fragile to quilt with her machine so she is sending it back and suggesting she have it hand quilted. 

My third grade teacher's name was Mrs. Lynn.  I remember we were all a little afraid of her as third graders.  As I grew up and had children of my own she lived through the block from me and I got to know her better.   

 She was quite a quilter and was an interesting person to visit with.  Her life had had more than it's share of sadness but you would never know it talking to her.  I helped her when she had some health issues in her later years and in fact she was still quilting for people in her late 80's.

I still have a tricot quilt on my bed that she made when she was close to 90.  I believe she was 93 when she passed away.    Yes, there is a reason for this story. 

Before she passed away she gave JeriLu some fabric. Jeri has decided to make the farmers wife pattern and she showed me the blocks and pointed out that she had used Mrs. Lynn's fabric in most of these. I love that and so would Mrs. Lynn, I think.

More from sew night....

I took this quilt from about 3 years ago to quilt night because I am looking for fabric to match the pieces in this.  Everyone is going to look in their stash.  I am gong to do this same pattern but Lana has an accucut with the tumbler die on it so I will use that and cut them a little bigger.  I made this quilt just out of some scraps and although I thought the colors were great the girls said it was kind of "old ladyish."  Meaning it was more my style than theirs.  I had at  about the same time made a very pink girly girl quilt for my toddler granddaughter.  I pulled the quilts out to show her the pink one and she went right to this one and would not even look at the pink one.  Needless to say this is her quilt.  I had to go borrow it from her to take to sew night, with the promise to have it back before bed time.  Don't you love it when that happens.

Claudia made one of her granddaughters this dress like Jeri's from last time.  I love it in the pink lemonade line. Look at those gigantic buttons. To cute.

She also made this modern quilt.  She said you start with a block but not a pattern and just keep adding to it.  I think is is great.  She is appliqueing on the yellow flowers.

Another Claudia quilt made with charm packs.  I am liking this and thinking I should probably do one of these soon.

What grandma wouldn't?

She made this baby quilt.  The 3 D bow ties really make it stand out.  This reminds me.  There is  a whole box full of bow tie blocks from long ago and far away somewhere in my closet. Maybe it is time for them to see the light of day.

Jeri brought some of her new fabric to see if it I could use it with the fabric I  have.  What do you think?  The line is called Daydreams by Riley Blake.  I think for sure I need the one is the middle. 

There is still more to come.  We enjoyed it so much because it had been so long since we had been to "sew night."
